TIME, a vibrant new group exhibition by Loughran Gallery explores the ultimate modern luxury: time itself. Bringing together 12 contemporary artists — including Harland Miller, Tomo Campbell, Pietro Terzini, Johan Deckmann, Helen Booth, Dave White and Chris Levine — TIME examines how time moves, slows, connects, and transforms.
It’s a celebration of moments both fleeting and eternal, brought to life through painting and silkscreen prints, each reframing ideas of speed and stillness, memory and possibility.
Part of the exhibition is curated around the works of text artists whose art focuses on time in different ways. Johan Deckmann, both as an artist and practising psychotherapist, paints witty titles or pensive phrases that provide satirical commentary on the complexities of life. Just as artist and writer Harland Miller’s polychromatic and graphically vernacular paintings have garnered a devoted following, Pietro Terzini is also considered a modern poet fuelled by today’s digital generation.
Whilst Tomo Campbell's abstracted depictions of 'traditional' subjects such as hunting, parades and explorers are, as he puts it, 'never quite solid or whole', yet they exude an extraordinarily rich sense of vision. 'I try to paint in a way that makes the paint vibrate', says Campbell, 'to make it look light and delicate and on the cusp of shifting'.
