Royal Hospital Chelsea once again provided one of the more elegant settings on the automotive calendar as Salon Privé London returned to West London from 16–18 April.
Over the course of the weekend, the lawns filled with an eclectic mix of historic Ferraris, coachbuilt Aston Martins, modern hypercars and low-production grand tourers, drawing collectors and enthusiasts from across the UK and Europe. What continues to distinguish the event, however, is not just the cars themselves, but the atmosphere surrounding them.
Where many automotive events now lean heavily into spectacle, Salon Privé London remains relatively restrained. The cars are given space. Conversations drift naturally from provenance and ownership history to coachwork details and period racing stories rather than performance statistics or social media moments.
London suits this kind of event well. Few cities move as comfortably between heritage and modern luxury, and Royal Hospital Chelsea only reinforces that contrast. A contemporary McLaren parked against centuries-old architecture somehow feels entirely natural here.
Among the standouts across the weekend were several important competition Ferraris, a number of highly specified modern Aston Martins and a strong presence from the newer generation of luxury performance manufacturers, many presenting cars shaped as much by craftsmanship and technology as outright speed.
Beyond the concours lawn itself, the event continued to blur the lines between automotive culture and the wider luxury world, with watchmakers, fashion houses and hospitality brands integrated throughout the grounds. Increasingly, the best car events feel less like traditional motor shows and more like carefully curated gatherings of like-minded people.
That is ultimately where Salon Privé London continues to succeed. It is not especially loud or theatrical. Nor does it try too hard to be.
Instead, it understands something many modern automotive events have forgotten: exceptional cars rarely require overstatement.
"An outstanding event from start to finish. Salon Privé combines world-class automobiles, an incredible setting and a fantastic atmosphere, making it one of the highlights of the automotive calendar. A must-attend event for any car enthusiast."
