Full Overview
We are pleased to offer this 1955 Lancia Aurelia B24S Spider America, chassis B24S-1008, one of the very earliest examples produced and retaining its matching engine numbered 1008.
The B24S Spider America is one of the great post-war Italian sports cars, combining Lancia’s advanced engineering with elegant Pininfarina coachwork. This early example is one of just 181 left-hand-drive B24S Spider Americas produced and is particularly well equipped, with its highly desirable factory hardtop and optional Borrani wire wheels.
The car is most attractively finished in Bianco White with a dark red leather interior, including the particularly charming and unusual detail of the dashboard top being trimmed in the same dark red leather as the seats. This was a rare period option, as detailed in the accompanying copy of the original brochure.
The car has an interesting history of historic-event participation. It was acquired from its previous owner in Switzerland before coming to the UK in 2012, where it has remained within the same collection ever since. Prior to this, the car was purchased by a private owner in the early 1990s and was subsequently entered into a number of prestigious historic events.
Among these were the 1994 Mille Miglia and the historic Targa Florio in Sicily, as well as the 1994 Concorso d’Eleganza in Turin. At the Turin event, the Aurelia was awarded the prestigious Trofeo Toro, finishing ahead of the B24S from the Pininfarina collection.
The car underwent a comprehensive restoration during the 1980s and, more recently, in 2021 received a comprehensive mechanical restoration by marque specialists Thornley Kelham Ltd.
With its exceptionally early chassis number, matching engine, factory hardtop, Borrani wire wheels, distinctive interior specification and impressive history of participation in some of Europe's most prestigious historic motoring events, B24S-1008 is a particularly interesting and well-connected example of the Lancia Aurelia B24S Spider America.
