One of just 75 DB4 GTs ever produced, the Aston Martin DB4 GT was conceived as a more focused, lightweight and competition-orientated version of the standard DB4. Unveiled at the 1959 London Motor Show, it quickly established itself as one of the most desirable British Grand Tourers of its era, combining breathtaking performance with timeless styling.
To achieve its impressive performance, Aston Martin shortened the standard DB4 chassis by five inches and fitted lightweight aluminium body panels, significantly reducing overall weight. Under the bonnet sits the legendary 3,670cc twin-cam straight-six engine, breathing through three twin-choke Weber carburettors and paired to a four-speed David Brown gearbox. Producing around 302bhp, the DB4 GT was capable of reaching approximately 150mph, making it one of the fastest production cars in the world at the time of its launch.
The exceptional example offered here was first registered in 1960 and proudly retains its original registration, '5 SPK', which remains with the car today. Throughout its life it has been enjoyed exactly as Aston Martin intended, with successive custodians actively campaigning the car in numerous Aston Martin Owners Club events, building an enviable history both on the road and on the track.
In 2015, the previous owner commissioned a comprehensive, body-off restoration by the highly respected Post Vintage Engineering (now Adrian Johnson's), returning the car to its original 1960 specification. Much of the specialist work was undertaken by renowned marque experts Bodylines, Spraytech and Post Vintage, ensuring every aspect of the restoration was completed to an exceptionally high standard. The result is a beautifully presented DB4 GT that combines outstanding authenticity with superb attention to detail.
Accompanying the car is an extensive history file containing restoration invoices, historical documentation and records of its racing and event participation, providing a fascinating insight into the life of this remarkable motor car.
Opportunities to acquire an original Aston Martin DB4 GT are exceptionally rare. With only 75 examples ever built, a highly desirable ownership history, documented competition pedigree, original registration and the benefit of an outstanding restoration, this represents a unique opportunity to acquire one of the most iconic and collectible Aston Martins ever produced.
